Of course, being one of the most popular attractions in Florence, there are often long lines to tour the gallery. Still, this shouldn’t be a deterrent. The sheer number of historic Italian art in the galleries makes it a can’t miss stop, and one that visitors won’t forget.

Conversely, watching the sunset fall of the PIazzale Michelangelo is completely free and comes without long wait times. Situated in the Oltrarno district, the plaza offers a striking tableau of the city in panoramic fashion, and is one of the most picturesque places in the world to view a sunset. One needs only take a brief walk through the narrow streets of San Niccolò, a sight in their own right, to get there.
